I am a sport and community junky. Growing up, I was involved in sports, church, clubs, and every extracurricular activity that was available to me. I thought I had a normal life, until I realized that I was going to become a child of divorced parents. I knew it would be a pivotal moment that would shape my future – and if you don’t believe me, I can refer you to a childhood journal entry that describes it in much more detail! While I did not understand the legal system or the ins and out of divorce, I knew I was different than most of my friends because I was a child of divorce. It was in those early years that I realized I wanted to make a difference long-term for other families and children facing separation and divorce. I knew that I could guide them as they discovered what their new “normal” would look like.

Giving back to people and being empathetic is who I am. The older I became, the more I was drawn to studying legal issues and developed an interest and love in the vast variety of what the law could teach us, how it could shape us, and how it influences our every day. While in high school, I received a recommendation for a position that had become available with a local law office. I walked into that office for an interview as a junior in high school, accepted a part-time position, and never looked back.

After ten years of being paralegal, working during the day and attending college at night, I knew I could do more. I applied for law school and was accepted. I attended law school part-time and continued my work as a paralegal. In my final year, I transferred to a full-time law student and graduated. I am now licensed to practice law in both North Carolina and South Carolina. I spend my days helping families navigate the ins and outs of divorce the same way an attorney helped my family and me all those years ago. Additionally, finding myself in the middle of divorce as a wife, mother, and attorney has added another layer of experience and challenge to the list of categories that enhance my ability to bring a unique perspective to family law cases, empathize with my clients, and understand the many emotions that family law cases bring.

I am a licensed Family Law Mediator in North Carolina and a Family Court Guardian Ad Litem in York County, South Carolina. While my focus has primarily been in the practice area of family law both as an attorney and as a Guardian Ad Litem, I also have experience in criminal law and traffic law, as well as estate planning and estate administration.

With twenty-five years in the legal field, regardless of position, I can say I am right where I want to be – and according to that grade school journal entry, I knew this was where I hoped to end up one day. I have discovered that “normal” is what we make it. I look forward to helping my clients and their families define what normal means to them.

I was born and raised in Union County, North Carolina, and call it “home.” I am involved in my community through non-profit organizations and other charitable events and bring a wealth of information and resources to both my clients and my community. When I am not being a fearless and compassionate advocate for my clients, you can find me traveling or spending time with my children, most likely at a baseball field somewhere.
