Robin Lalley is a hands-on, dedicated attorney who loves everything to do with family law. When she attended Western Carolina University, it exposed her to a melting pot of experiences, which left the big question, “Where to next?” After school she was unsure if she wanted to get her business degree or take a step in another direction. Thankfully for us and her clients, she continued with her legal studies! When she’s not practicing law or spending time with family, Robin devotes her time to volunteer work. Robin contributes tirelessly to the community every day, and has either attended or planned the last SEVEN Red Cross Rhapsody in Red Galas! Find out more about what she does and her love of family law in this edition of Get to Know Sodoma Law York!
Tragedies In Court….Food Court!
One of her most challenging jobs involved working at one of the campus food courts while attending college. Throughout her weekdays things went fairly easy, but the weekends truly proved to be a challenge! “I always had to work either Friday or Saturday night until we closed,” she said. And by close we don’t mean your average closing time of 9 or 10PM…She means 2:00 AM in the morning! “I had to make made-to-order sandwiches for inebriated college kids,” she said, and said that there was always a rush at 1:45 AM…right before closing. It can’t be easy to take an order from someone who’s had a bit too much! Although her night shifts usually consisted of incomprehensible orders, she laughed it off and said that those crazy kids at closing helped prepare her for the fast-paced environment of Sodoma Law York.
A Future of Office Work
What if Robin hadn’t pursued her legal career? She told us during the interview, “I probably would be in an office job, I could have seen myself as a HR director or counselor”. Without the insight from her very first intro legal class, she said, “After getting my MBA, I would have taken the first well-paying job I found”. Luckily, she continued her legal pursuit and says, “I now get to come to work at a place I love every day.”
Her Way of Taking a Day Off
Everyone has a favorite food, and most of us would eat it every day for the rest of our lives if there were no consequences. For Robin, she says, “No question – filet cooked medium rare and a loaded baked potato…Maybe some kind of vegetable on the side, just to be healthy.”
On her rare days off, you won’t find her in the gym or running a marathon. She explained, “I’m not one of those people who exercises to relax…It’s great for other people, but not me!” Her ideal day off includes going to the movies, cooking dinner at home, and reading the latest book club selection. A little relaxing sounds great to us too!
What She Enjoys About Family Law
Growing up as an adopted child provided Robin with a different prospective on family law, which has continued to be helpful to each of her clients. She said that for her, the true gift of practicing family law comes from the interactions and relationships you build with clients. Dealing directly with people who are having a hard time gives you the opportunity to make a difference. Her patience, understanding and practicality have been a blessing for everyone, from her clients and to our family here at Sodoma Law York!
