I always knew I would choose a profession that allowed me to be an advocate for other people. Growing up I witnessed firsthand the devastation left behind by divorce in families. Combined with my innate desire to help people, those experiences would eventually lead me to Family Law.
Often, the issues people face when it comes to marriage, parenting, and divorce are some of the hardest. Navigating the legal proceedings that accompany those issues can be even harder, leaving families feeling lost and discouraged. My goal is to guide clients and their families through the legal process while minimizing the effects on children involved, leaving them feeling empowered and prepared for the next phase of their lives.
Having personal experience with divorce, I understand the emotional rollercoaster that can accompany family law-related issues. Whether you are going through an amicable divorce or facing a high-conflict custody battle, I recognize there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. I know the first step in any case is to listen to and understand my clients’ wants and needs. Then I can develop a recommendation that makes the most sense for each client and their family. The knowledge and experience I have gained through practicing family law combined with my ability to understand and empathize with each client’s individual needs helps me to advise, educate, guide, and assist them toward resolutions that optimize their future security.
I received both my Bachelor of Arts in Experimental Psychology and my Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina. My background in psychology helps me to understand, relate, and empathize with each and every client that comes into my office. While in law school, I took part in the Children’s Law Certificate Program where I focused my studies on child and family-related issues including but not limited to family law, juvenile justice, education law, and child protection and welfare.
I am licensed to practice law in North Carolina and South Carolina and am an active member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association, York County Bar Association, North Carolina Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association and serve on the board for Women Lawyers of Charlotte. Additionally, I serve as a volunteer attorney at the Council for Children’s Rights and as guardian ad litem advocating on behalf of minor children.
